House – “The Tipping Point”
House – “The Tipping Point”
Interpretation
Listening to people listening to their own homes. Musicians and actors will listen back to recordings made in local peoples homes on headphones, and interpret/ translate what they are hearing.
ReadWho: Jean-Luc and Eric are two of most interesting field recording artists and composers in Europe. Seijiro is an alternately super restrained, diamond-hard percussionist. Gaël, we are reliably informed, will stop at nothing.
What: In May, Jean-Luc and Eric spent time listening with people in Glasgow to their relationships to their own homes in Glasgow, how they listen to music, and to their situation. You could listen to these instant compositions at our UNINSTAL event in May, or on our website right now (see below for streamed versions). Now they will listen to people listening to their own homes. Musicians and actors will listen back to these recordings on headphones, and interpret/ translate what they are hearing.
Why: In listening to people listening to their own situation, the HOUSE project gambles a little, hoping to reveal the acute analysis and sensitivity to listening we all have, but often pass over. And it does this without really seeming to do much – it’s a really simple procedure, for less than simple results
A CD of this project including the live performance at Tramway and the original ‘House’ recordings from Uninstal was released on Potlatch records in 2014
