Jennifer Reeves & Anthony Burr
Jennifer Reeves & Anthony Burr
An immersive live performance for multiple 16mm films and bass clarinet, taking in the whole gallery, submerging the audience.
Jennifer Reeves creates deeply felt films that investigate emotional and social issues as often as they simply rejoice in abstract form and technique. Using bleached and optically printed stock, solarizing, tinting and what sometimes looks like corroding her frames, Reeves interests range across the political and the artistic; she’s as likely to investigate optical rhythm as she is to peer into sexual fantasy or adolescent angst. Regardless of subject, each film is a psycho-cinematic free-association, as emotionally true as it is aesthetically moving.
ReadJennifer will present a double projection performance of her film He Walked Away, and a new site specific immersive performance, specially conceived for DCA, which will envelope the gallery in light and sound, and involve just about as many projectors as we can lay our hands on. Joining her is Anthony Burr, a bass clarinetist and electronic musician with a distinctive voice and an impressive role call of collaborators including John Zorn, Alvin Lucier, Evan Parker and Jim O’Rourke. Anthony has developed a singular technique for bass clarinet, and acoustic minimalism capable of creating deep moods and spatial atmosphere.
