Investigation – Christof Migone

Investigation – Christof Migone

Can we use sound, repetition (Even out of the most basic repetition, difference is created: for just one e.g.: 1+1+1+1+… generates all the natural numbers (2,3,4,5,6,7…) but also all the even numbers (2,4,6,8…), the prime numbers (2,3,5,7,11…) etc. and so on… ) and difference to personally and collectively engage with space, time and labour?

Read

Christof is a Canadian thinker, artist, musician and writer. He’s interested in simple, open-ended concepts that we can test out together and that expand on ideas of: language, voice, bodies, performance, space, intimacy, complicity and endurance. A simple activity for people to perform together: 15 people lie down and with a live microphone, amp and the instruction to pound the ground 1,000 times each.

Christof proposes central questions of how we inhabit public or private spaces, how sound or our bodies (and their repetitive actions, over time) can articulate spaces, about individuals and community, about repetitive labour. He does it in simple, clear ways and he’s interested to see what your answers are. So are we. His piece Hit Parade was tested out and performed by people who have came along to Christof’s investigation group.

All of these investigations will produce knowledge (we hope). We’ll end each investigation group with a reflection on what has been done that day and what could be done the next. This will be documented to form an organically growing accumulation of knowledge in Gallery 1 at DCA.

We’ll also use this space, along with Ultra-red, to meet up with our colleagues in community organising, activism and arts education from across Dundee, and give it over to them to use too.

So when it’s not being used for listening sessions or work with specific groups, It’ll be open to you as a kind of evolving investigation of ideas. Feel free to drop in, and check out what’s been going on, which may or may not include: screeds of filpchart paper and text, audio recordings of Dundee, proposals for how to develop KYTN next, and the like…..An exhibition of dialogue.
