Steve Roden

What we wrote at the time…

Focusing in on the things that most people don’t notice or pass by uncaring – Steve Roden crafts gentle, sparse and yet metaphorically loaded compositions. From field recordings of everyday objects and occurrences, [a scarf flapping on a window, coat hangers clanging together in a wardrobe] he builds quietly repeating motifs and fragments into sonically complex, yet personal listening experiences which excel through their compositional prowess and beautifully delicate application of melody and rhythm. At KYTN, Roden will create an improvised soundtrack to one of his own films, using nothing more than a lap steel guitar, rocks, twigs, objects found near DCA and a few contact mics.
