Object of Thought
Object of Thought
A solo improvisation using just the situation of the concert: a space, a PA, Mattin’s own thoughts, you, the audience.
ReadWhat we wrote about it at the time: Who: Mattin is one of the most provocative musicians in Europe, committed to using the ideas of noise and improvisation to explore our wider cultural, social, political situation.
What: A solo improvisation using just the situation of the concert: a space, a PA, Mattin’s own thoughts, you, the audience.
Why: The way we think is produced by our context, history and experience, currently dominated by conservatism and capitalism. Could we produce another, un-dominated intellect? How? In trying, could a musician pervert the idea of virtuosity and superiority, of playing the crowd or having something to sell, by recognising that he’s not the only person in the room? “Teases apart many of the suppositions, clichés and unarticulated ideologies that underline the practice of improvised music” – Glasgow’s very own David Keenan/ Volcanic Tongue
