The Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda
The Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda
What we wrote about them at the time…
The psychedelic majesty of Nagoya-based avant-hippy heroes Acid Mothers Temple is like nothing else in music today. A freak-out group for the 21st century, burning with life from moment to moment, they have re-birthed rock in a miasma of psychedelic, krautrock-inspired roar and transcendental, shimmering chimes and drones. For this very special set, two key members of AMT [head guru Kawabata Mokoto and Tsuyama Atsushi] will be joined by Ruins for a once only live soundtrack to Ira Cohen’s infamous 60´s psychedelic masterpiece ‘The Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda’. Ira Cohen will be in attendance.
After the festival, the subsequent recording was then released on a 2006 DVD publication of the film alongside three other soundtrack versions; the original soundtrack by The Joyous Lake; a soundtrack by Sunburned Hand Of The Man recorded in 2006 whom Ira met at KYTN 03; and a commentary by Ira Cohen. The release was reviewed by The New York Times.
