One of the most compelling performers in Japan and a fulcrum to the Japanese noise scene, JOJO Hiroshige has been responsible for much of the explosion of free music coming out of Japan in the last 30 years. He’s a founding member of the Osaka-based noise unit, Hijokaidan, and also runs the trailblazing Alchemy imprint, renowned for their output of mind-bending noise/punk/avant-rock cuts. JOJO’s solo work exists in slight contrast, or maybe even in relief to his form destroying excursions with Hijokaidan, as it’s much more obviously influenced by ‘70s heavy psych, thudding rock riffery and straight down the line psychedelic pop.
