Entry to Film by Day or Festival Pass

Who:

Father of film-as-performance, raconteur and compassionate worrier, Ken Jacobs.

What:

Discarded TV footage of interviews in Harlem in the direct aftermath of Malcolm X's assassination: reprinted as found, totally unaltered. "A lot of film is perfect left alone…I wish more stuff was available in its raw state, for anyone to consider, and to leave for others in just that way…O, for a Museum of Found Footage, or cable channel, library, a shit-museum of telling discards accessible to all talented viewers/auditors. A wilderness haven salvaged from Entertainment."

Why:

Like Vanessa Place’s writing, Ken’s film alters material by organizing it unchanged. Without seemingly doing anything, and like Pascal Le Gall’s performances, Perfect Film and its content makes us think again about what is improvised, composed and performed.
