Brandon LaBelle

Temporary Outpost for an Auditory Gesture

Temporary Outpost for an Auditory Gesture is a kind of performed installation that concentrates on certain sonic phenomena (like feedback, vibration, resonance, echo, rhythm) and explores how they condition our experiences of social life and public environments. An open, plural space for wandering, checking out audio, text, maybe some drawings, maps, and ideas, the event also involve open discussion and performance.

Who: Brandon thinks about the concepts of music28 or listening as ideas, and tries to apply them afresh. This obliges him to make music that doesn't feel like music, but, in some new way, is. Musician, writer, publisher and a prominent thinker about sound and its relationship to everyday life.

What: The first of three projects with Brandon; Temporary Outpost for an Auditory Gesture is a kind of performed installation that concentrates on certain sonic phenomena (like feedback, vibration, resonance, echo, rhythm) and explores how they condition our experiences of social life and public environments. An open, plural space for wandering, checking out audio, text, maybe some drawings, maps, and ideas, the event also involve open discussion and performance.

Why: Brandon thinks about the core concepts of music or listening as ideas that give us some purchase on how everyday life is constructed, or could be altered30. This obliges him to make music that doesn't feel a hell of a lot like music, but, in some new way, is.
